Sales and Distribution Solutions Profile, Jarrod McGrath

Jarrod McGrath, Sales and Distribution Solutions At the age of 36, Jarrod McGrath has taken the challenge to the traditional consultancies and service organisations to define and implement an efficient and cost effective sales and distribution solutions to improve an organisations bottom line and customer satisfaction.

Jarrod always had a passion for computers, and started programming as a teenager. He used to fund his expensive pastime by working a successful and profitable mobile disco around Bathurst. Jarrod completed a BSc (Honours), Industrial Mathematics and Computing at Charles Sturt University in the early 90's, and during this time developed a particular interest in the web.

Jarrod's first job out of uni was working for DMR consulting followed by Swedish ERP specialist Intentia. He then spent another ten years working on SAP and software implementations in large corporate environments as both a permanent employee and independent consultant. It was a great experience, he worked in a number of industries -- fashion, fast moving consumer goods and hi-tech -- implementing functional ERP solutions for these businesses. Jarrod's main focus while working in the ERP arena was the implementation of sales and distribution business functions within an organisation.

Jarrod always had a particular interest in the web, and in late 1998 he met up with a cousin at a BBQ. They talked about selling art on the web and from these discussions an on-line gallery was established. Soon after Jarrod established Australia's first dedicated online art auction site. In the three years Jarrod was involved with the business over 2500 works of art from 900 Australian and international artists were auctioned via Yahoo! and eBay. The business was grown from zero revenue to many hundreds of thousands of dollars within that time. One of the biggest challenges to overcome was to give consumers confidence that the traditional art auction business could be transferred to the web. It also became apparent at this time that the current sales and distribution processes required integration with web technologies.

With the phenomenal growth of the web, the increase of web based sales and with the ever increasing complexity in technology Jarrod established Sales and Distribution Solutions to offer corporate organisations services to implement efficient and cost effective solutions in the sales and distribution space. Over the years Jarrod has developed an extensive range of skills in areas such as management, ERP, web and solutions architecture. Jarrod believes we have come out of a phase where there was a tendency for corporations to use the major consulting firms for their advice and solution ideas. Now, many companies are looking to individuals and smaller boutique agencies such as Sales and Distribution Solutions who can work more closely with their permanent staff.
